The Owenbys arrived from Texas in 1893 to homestead along the west side of Oak Creek, where the bridge crosses today. Their first filing was found to be in error so they had to re-file. They were the first in Sedona to 'patent' their homestead claim and receive title to their land. They built a difficult irrigation ditch that is still operational.
